San Diego Travel Notes: Coast, Food, and Relaxed City Spaces

San Diego is the other places I visited during my trip to the United States. San Diego gave me a softer and more relaxed kind of travel memory. It was not only about visiting attractions, but also about seeing the coast and walking through open spaces. This travel note is based on my own visit to San Diego, California. It is not a complete city guide, but a personal record of the places I went to, the spaces I remember, and the small moments that became part of the trip.

First Impression of San Diego

My first impression of San Diego was relaxed and easygoing. Compared to bigger and busier cities, San Diego felt more open, coastal, and comfortable. I can still remember the road where I can see the sea. There was something calming about the city. Maybe it was because of the coastal atmosphere, the open parks, or the slower rhythm of the places I visited. San Diego felt like a city where you can enjoy both nature and city life without feeling overwhelmed. For me, San Diego was more about spending time in different spaces, the ocean view in La Jolla, the greenery and architecture in Balboa Park, the family-friendly atmosphere of SeaWorld, and the large, well-known San Diego Zoo. Each place had a different mood, but together they made the trip feel balanced.

Plates

Food was not the biggest focus of my San Diego trip, but there were still a few simple food memories that stayed with me.

I ate inside SeaWorld during the visit, which became part of the day’s experience. It was not really about searching for a special local restaurant, but more about having food in the middle of an attraction day. Sometimes when traveling, food is not always about the best restaurant. Sometimes it is simply about taking a break, sitting down, and having something to eat before continuing the day.

Another food memory from San Diego was having pizza in La Jolla. It was simple, but it matched the relaxed feeling of the area. La Jolla already had such a beautiful coastal atmosphere, so even a casual meal felt memorable because of where it happened.I did not explore many specialty restaurants in San Diego, so this part of the trip was less about food discovery and more about simple meals during travel.

Spaces

The spaces in San Diego were what I remember most. SeaWorld was one of the main places I visited. It felt lively, family-friendly, and very much like a full-day attraction. There were shows, walking areas, water-themed details, and many things to see. It was a place that made the trip feel playful and active.

Balboa Park was and is always my favorite place in San Diego. The architecture, the arch, the garden, all are breathtaking. It felt beautiful, open, and full of character. It is absolutely not just a normal park. It was the kind of place where I enjoyed looking around, noticing the architecture, and taking in the surroundings slowly.

San Diego Zoo was also a big part of the trip. It felt large, green, and very well known for a reason. Visiting the zoo made the day feel outdoorsy and full. It was not a whole day trip, unfortunately, so I mostly take a quick look of everything. It is about walking through a large space with different areas, paths, and scenery.

La Jolla gave a completely different feeling. This was one also my favorite place, I always love coastal view and it is very beautiful. The ocean, the cliffs, the fresh air, and the relaxed neighborhood feeling made La Jolla feel special. It had the kind of view that makes you slow down for a while. Even a simple walk or casual meal there felt more memorable because of the place itself.

I also went to Fashion Valley just before they closed, at night, because I needed to my mobile provider after my phone stopped working. It was not part of the original “travel dream” kind of itinerary, but it became part of the real travel story. Fashion Valley felt more like an everyday city space, a shopping mall, a practical stop, and a reminder that travel is not always perfect. Sometimes you also need to solve problems along the way.

Who San Diego Is Good For

Based on my visit, San Diego is good for travelers who enjoy a relaxed city with coastal views, family-friendly attractions, and open spaces. It is a nice place for first-time travelers who want a mix of ocean, parks, animals, and easy city experiences. San Diego is also good for people who enjoy slow travel. It is also good to bring kids. You do not need to rush too much here. You can visit one or two places in a day, take your time, and still feel like the day was full. For families, SeaWorld and San Diego Zoo can be strong reasons to visit. For people who enjoy architecture, gardens, and cultural spaces, Balboa Park is very memorable. For travelers who love coastal views, La Jolla is one of the places that makes San Diego feel special. It is not a very crowded city, but for those who enjoy the coast, comfortable spaces, and a more relaxed travel rhythm, San Diego can be a beautiful stop.
